Inserting a hyperlink into a Wordpress post or page
12th May 2009 | Posted in: Wordpress Tutorials 0

A hyperlink is a piece of text or image that has the ability to open up another web page once clicked on. A standard menu is a collection of hyperlinks as well as this link to an SEO Wiki Entry. Hyperlinks are very useful since it forms the core of the page-to-page navigation process.

Adding a Text Hyperlink
Open up a Page or Post and highlight the text that you would like to convert into a hyperlink. Once selected, click on the Insert/Edit link button on the editor toolbar. A window will pop up that will ask for the parameters of the hyperlink. At the Link Url text box, type in the actual website address that should be navigated to. You may choose to add the URL (web link) of a internal web page, an external web page or any type of file (pdf, zip, mp3,etc) on the internet. Make sure to add the http:// before the www.

If the hyperlink points to another page on your own website then select the Open In This Window option from the Target dropdown. That will keep the current window open and navigate to the correct web page. If the hyperlink points to an external source then use the Open In New Window target option. This will open a new window so that your website is still open.

You can provide a text title for the hyperlink. This will give a brief description of the link while hovering your mouse pointer over that link. It will also make indexing by Google better. Click on the Insert button and your hyperlink is now active.

Adding a Hyperlink to an image
Click on the image that you want to convert into a hyperlink and click on the Insert/Edit Link button on the toolbar. Follow the same process as the Text Link process.
